Frase
Why Frase
Frase is an AI-powered SEO and content platform that handles the full content lifecycle. It researches topics and competitors, drafts in your brand voice, publishes with proper formatting and monitors rankings across both traditional search and generative AI engines. It is built for content marketers, SEO teams and agencies publishing at scale.
What it does
Frase is a content platform for SEO and AI search. It audits your site, researches topics and competitors, builds briefs and topic clusters, drafts articles in your brand voice, and scores them for Google and for AI answers. It can publish to WordPress, Webflow, Sanity, Wix or its own hosted CMS. After publishing it keeps checking: Content Guard watches rankings and AI mentions and drafts a fix when a page slips.
Why you would need it
Content work breaks into many steps, and each step usually has its own tool: keyword research, a brief, a writer, an optimiser, a CMS, a rank tracker. Pages go live and then nobody checks them. Traffic drops quietly months later.
Frase connects those steps. You see opportunities ranked by likely impact, you draft with your own voice in context, and you get alerts when a page declines. It also tracks whether AI assistants such as ChatGPT or Perplexity cite you, which classic SEO tools often leave out.
Where it fits
Frase sits between keyword research and your CMS, and it stays on after publishing. It reads your search data through connectors for Google Search Console and Google Analytics. It publishes into your CMS. It replaces a separate brief tool, an AI writer and a rank tracker.
What stands out
- An autonomy dial. You choose how much Frase publishes on its own, up to a review queue where nothing ships until you approve it.
- AI visibility tracking. It monitors where AI search cites your brand next to normal rankings.
- Official API and MCP server. The REST API has more than 50 endpoints, and the MCP server works with Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor.
- Many languages. It writes natively in more than 70 languages.
My take
I'd pick Frase when content is a steady channel and you publish often enough that process matters. The review queue is the part I like, because you can try automation without giving up control.
What I'd watch is quality. A tool that drafts in your voice still needs a person to check facts, claims and tone before anything goes live. Also keep an eye on the credit and article limits. If you publish a handful of pages a year, you do not need this much tooling. Compare it with Surfer SEO, Clearscope and Semrush before you decide.
Verdict
Pick Frase when you run a content programme and want one workflow from research to monitoring, including AI search. Skip it when you publish rarely, when you already have a strong process you like, or when you do not want AI drafting near your brand.

Limits per plan
There is no free plan, but there is a 7-day trial with no card. Paid plans limit articles, sites and seats, and extra seats cost more. Match the limits to your actual publishing volume, and check what an API call costs in credits, since the vendor says API tasks use the same credits as the app.

Automation needs oversight
Publishing on autopilot is possible, but accuracy and tone are your responsibility. Start with every page in the review queue and loosen it only when you trust the output. Keep a person responsible for facts, quotes and claims.
AI search is still moving
Tracking mentions in AI answers is useful, but the signals change fast and no vendor controls them. Treat the data as a direction, not a precise score, and do not rebuild your strategy around one metric.
Compare the neighbours
Frase overlaps with several tools. Compare Surfer SEO and Clearscope for optimisation, Semrush for broad SEO, and Writesonic or Jasper for drafting. Using ChatGPT with Frase's MCP server needs a Business, Enterprise or Edu ChatGPT plan.
