Wix
Why Wix
Wix is a hosted, no-code website builder with drag-and-drop editing, a built-in CMS and native ecommerce. It includes hosting, security, domain registration and payment processing. Small businesses, freelancers and solopreneurs use it to launch and run sites or online stores without developer help.
What it does
Wix is a hosted, no-code builder for business websites and online stores. You start from a template or describe what you want to an AI builder, then refine the page in a drag-and-drop editor. Hosting, security and a domain come with the paid plans.
Business tools are built in: ecommerce, payments, bookings, a blog, email campaigns, social posting and SEO tools. The vendor lists more than 2,000 templates, an app market for extra functions, and custom code when the editor is not enough.
Why you would need it
The pain is simple. You need a site that takes bookings or sells things, and you have no developer, no time and no wish to manage servers. Stitching a host, a site builder, a shop and a booking tool together is a project in itself.
Wix puts those in one place. You build the site, connect payments and publish, all in one login. The change is that a site goes from idea to live in days, not weeks, and you can keep editing it yourself.
Where it fits
Wix replaces a separate host, site builder and simple shop. It sits next to your CRM and email tool. The vendor names connections to Google Analytics, Google Search Console, Facebook Pixel, Semrush and Zapier.
Wix Studio is the vendor's separate option for agencies and more advanced builds. If your needs grow past a template site, that is where to look.
What stands out
- An AI site builder plus a drag-and-drop editor, so you can start fast and still adjust by hand.
- Ecommerce, bookings, payments and a blog built into the platform.
- A free plan, so you can build before you pay.
- An official MCP server and a REST API for people who want to extend a site.
My take
Wix is a practical choice for a business that needs a site this week. The built-in booking and shop tools save a lot of glue work, and the free plan lets you try the editor before spending anything.
I would not pick it for a design-led marketing site that needs heavy experimentation, tight performance control or a large custom build. Moving a site off Wix later also means rebuilding it. Many of the useful tools sit on higher plans, so read the plan comparison against the features you actually need.
Verdict
Pick it if you want a business site or small shop live quickly without a developer. Skip it if you plan a marketing site that will be tested and tuned constantly, or a large custom build. Check the price on the purchase page in your own country first, because the vendor says prices vary by location.
Notes
Your note
Before you choose
Prices vary by country
The vendor shows reference prices in US dollars for yearly billing and says prices and currency vary by location. Check the price at checkout in your own country, and check whether tax is included.

Features sit on higher plans
Payments, storage and ecommerce depth depend on the plan. Compare the plans against the features you need, such as bookings, number of collaborators and ecommerce tools, before you pick one. Paid plans include a free domain for one year, and you should check the renewal terms.
Leaving is a rebuild
Moving a site off Wix later means rebuilding it. Treat the choice as a long-term one, and keep your copy and images in a form you can reuse.
Limited control over code and speed
Fine control over performance and code is limited compared with a code-first or visual-development platform. For a marketing site that depends on fast loading and careful technical SEO, test your pages first.
Alternatives to compare
Compare Squarespace for polished templates, Webflow for design control and WordPress for flexibility and plugins.
