Shopify vs Wix

Shopify logovsWix logo
Shopify is built for running a shop. Wix is a general site builder that also sells and takes bookings. Pick Shopify for a store-first business and Wix when you need a whole site live quickly.

The verdict

If the shop is the business, I'd pick Shopify. It is made for catalogues, orders and shipping, and the app and developer ecosystem will carry you as you grow. If you need a business site this week, with a few products, bookings and a blog, and you have no developer, I'd pick Wix. It puts those in one place, and the free plan lets you try the editor first. Check Wix prices in your own country, because the vendor says they vary by location. On Shopify, price out apps, themes and card fees before you compare plans. Moving off either one later means a rebuild.

Who each is for

Shopify logo

Choose Shopify if…

Pick Shopify if you sell products online and want a store that scales. That means stock that updates with each sale, shipping steps, point of sale for physical shops, and integrations with email, helpdesk and accounting tools. The GraphQL Admin API and the official developer MCP server suit teams with a developer. Skip it if you mainly sell services or bookings, or if you want a simple site with a small shop. You will pay for apps and themes, and you may not need most of them.

Wix logo

Choose Wix if…

Pick Wix if you are a small business, freelancer or solo founder who needs a working site that takes bookings or sells things, live quickly, with no developer. The AI builder, drag-and-drop editor and over 2,000 templates make a fast start, and paid plans include hosting and security. Many useful tools sit on higher plans, so match the plan to the features you need. Skip it if the shop is the business, or if you want tight performance control and heavy testing on a marketing site.
