Why Sellfy

Sellfy is an e-commerce platform for creators that lets you sell digital products, subscriptions and physical goods from a hosted storefront. It handles checkout and payments, so you can start selling without building your own shop. It suits creators and small businesses that want a simple store rather than a full e-commerce setup.

Best for
Creators and small brands selling their own ebooks, templates, courses, subscriptions or merchandise who want a hosted store with checkout and file delivery working within a day.

What it does

Sellfy is a hosted online store builder for creators. You pick a template, upload your products and start taking payments. It handles the storefront, the checkout and the delivery of files. You can sell digital downloads of up to 20GB per file, subscriptions with weekly, monthly or yearly billing, physical products and print-on-demand merchandise.

Checkout accepts PayPal, Stripe, Apple Pay, Google Pay and cards. You can also embed buy buttons on any page, so your store does not have to be the only place you sell.

Why you would need it

A creator with an audience and a few products often loses weeks on the wrong thing: gluing a website, a payment provider and a file host together. Every part has its own login and its own failure points.

Sellfy removes that assembly work. You can have a working shop in an afternoon, with secure file delivery already handled. If your goal is to start selling and learn what your audience buys, speed is the point.

Where it fits

Sellfy is your store and checkout. Traffic comes from your own channels: YouTube, a newsletter, social profiles or a website. It has its own email campaigns, abandoned cart messages, upsells and an affiliate feature, so for a small shop you can run marketing from the same dashboard.

It competes with Gumroad and Payhip for digital goods, and with the lighter end of Shopify for physical goods. For course-focused creators, Podia, Teachable and Kajabi are the other names. If you want to be the seller of record for tax, look at Lemon Squeezy.

What stands out

  • Digital product delivery done properly. Download limits and PDF stamping help reduce unauthorised sharing, and you get logs to handle refund disputes.
  • No transaction fees from Sellfy. The vendor states zero transaction fees on its plans. Plans are limited by your annual sales volume instead.
  • Several product types in one store. Downloads, subscriptions, physical goods and print-on-demand sit side by side.
  • Zapier and webhooks. The vendor lists both as integration options, which gives you a way out of the store when you need to automate.

My take

Sellfy is a good first store for someone who sells their own work. Its strength is the on-ramp: a non-technical person can sell on the first day. The email and upsell features are convenient, though lighter than a dedicated email tool such as Kit.

The honest limit is that you are on its rails. Customisation has a ceiling, and moving off later is real work because your customers, products and history live inside it. That is the price of the convenience, and for a small catalogue it is usually a fair one.

Verdict

Pick Sellfy when you are a creator or small brand with a handful of products and an audience, and you want to sell quickly with little setup. Skip it when you run a large catalogue, need complex inventory or tax set-ups, or want full control over the storefront code.

Before you choose

Plans are capped by sales volume

Sellfy plans are tiered by annual sales volume, not by seats. That is fair while you are small, but check where each tier ends against your realistic revenue so a good year does not push you into a higher plan unexpectedly.

A ceiling on customisation

The store builder is drag and drop, which is easy but limited. If you need unusual layouts, custom checkout logic or B2B quoting, you will outgrow it. Webflow or WordPress with a payments tool give you more control.

Lock-in

Customers, products, subscriptions and order history sit inside Sellfy. Ask how to export them before you build a business on it, and keep your email list in a tool you control.

Compare the alternatives

Gumroad and Payhip are the usual names for digital goods, and Podia suits creators who sell courses and memberships. If tax handling is your main worry, a merchant-of-record option such as Lemon Squeezy deserves a look.
