Reporting

The tool turns recorded work into summaries and charts, such as hours by project, person or client, that can be filtered, saved and exported.

What it is

Reporting in a time or work tool means built-in summaries of what has been tracked. You can see hours per project, per team member or per client over a chosen period, often as tables and charts. Clockify, Toggl and Motion are examples of tools that provide reports.

Why it matters

Raw time entries do not answer business questions. Reports show whether a fixed-price project is over budget, how much of the week is billable and where the team's time actually goes. They also supply the numbers for invoices and for planning future work.

They matter most for agencies, consultancies and any team that bills by the hour or tracks project profitability. If nobody reviews the numbers, simple totals are enough and advanced reporting is wasted.

What to check

  • Which breakdowns are available, such as by project, client, task, person or tag?
  • Can you save a report or schedule it by email?
  • Can you export to CSV or PDF, or share a read-only link with a client?
  • Do the reports include costs and billable rates, and are those limited to higher plans?
