Clockify
Why Clockify
Clockify logs billable work hours across projects with timesheets, invoicing, and expense tracking. It serves freelancers, agencies, consultants, and teams that need to track time and bill clients accurately. A free plan covers unlimited tracking for up to five users, with paid plans adding approvals, budgets, and single sign-on.
What it does
Clockify is a time tracker. You log hours with a timer, by typing them in or through automatic detection, and attach them to projects and clients. From there you get timesheets, a calendar view, reports on billable time and project cost, and invoices.
It also covers scheduling, time off, attendance and expense recording, so it goes further than a simple timer.
Why you would need it
If you sell time, you need to know how much you sold and what it cost to deliver. Without a record, you invoice from memory and under-bill. Or you discover at the end of a project that it ate twice the hours you quoted.
Tracked time fixes both. You send an invoice that matches reality, and you see which clients and projects actually make money.
Where it fits
Clockify sits between the work and the money. Project tools such as Asana, Trello and ClickUp hold the tasks. Clockify holds the hours. Accounting tools receive the result, and it lists QuickBooks and Xero among its integrations.
It does not replace task tracking. It replaces the spreadsheet or notebook where hours used to get written down late.
What stands out
- A free plan with unlimited time tracking, timesheets and reports.
- Invoicing, approvals, budgets and forecasting, so it covers the billing side as well as the timer.
- A wide integration list across project management, communication, accounting, CRM and helpdesk tools.
- Kiosk mode for clocking in on a shared device.
Who gets the most from it
Small agencies and consultancies get the quickest return. A team of five or ten people that bills by the hour can see within a few weeks which clients are profitable and which are not. Larger companies use it for approvals, budgets and attendance. A solo freelancer can stay on the free plan for a long time and still get timesheets and reports.
My take
I'd start here for any small service business that bills by the hour. The free plan lets you build the habit before you pay for anything, and the habit is the hard part.
The catch is discipline. A tracker only works if people log time the same day. Pick one method, timer or end-of-day entry, and stick to it.
Verdict
Pick Clockify when you bill time and want to start free. Skip it when you only want a private timer with no billing angle, or when you are on a fixed-price model and never look at hours.
Notes
Your note
Before you choose
Which tier has the feature you need
Pricing is per seat. Invoicing and approvals do not sit on the cheapest paid tier, and advanced items such as GPS tracking sit higher still. Check the plan comparison for the specific features you need before you roll it out.

Habit, not software
The report is only as good as the entries. If half the team forgets to log time, the profitability numbers mislead you. Decide who checks timesheets and when.
Bundles and add-ons
Clockify sits in a bundle with other CAKE.com tools, which is priced separately. Ignore it unless you want those other tools too.
