If your team loses track of tasks, owners and deadlines, pick Asana. If you sell time and invoice by the hour, pick Clockify.
They are not rivals, and you can run both. Asana holds the tasks, Clockify holds the hours and your accounting tool receives the result. When I used Asana, it had no built-in time tracker, so we added a separate one. Check what your Asana plan offers today before you promise clients hours-based reporting. If you can only start with one, start with the problem that costs you more. For most small service businesses that bill by the hour, it is the missing hours.

Choose Asana if…
Pick Asana if your work follows a process with clear owners, such as write, review, approve. It suits marketing, operations and agency teams that run many projects in one shared workspace and need deadlines and approval steps to be visible.
It works best when each task has one clear owner. A task has a single assignee, so a deliverable shared by two people has to be split into linked tasks. It is a weaker fit for ad hoc work, and it will not replace a wiki. The free plan lets you try it with a real project.
Choose Clockify if…
Pick Clockify if you bill by the hour and need tracked time turned into timesheets, invoices and project cost reports. It suits freelancers, small agencies and consultants, and the free plan means you can build the habit before you pay for anything.
It also covers approvals, budgets, scheduling and time off on paid tiers. It does not replace task tracking. The report is only as good as the entries, so pick one method, timer or end-of-day entry, and make sure someone checks the timesheets. Skip it if you work on fixed prices and never look at hours.
