Build automated conversations across Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger and other social channels to capture leads.

Why Manychat

Manychat automates two-way conversations across Instagram, Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, Telegram, SMS and email. It uses keyword triggers and comment-to-DM automations to capture leads at scale. Creators, e-commerce sellers and small B2B teams use it when social messaging is a core channel and conversation volume requires automation.

Best for
Creators, online shops and small B2B teams that get enquiries through Instagram, WhatsApp or Messenger and want to answer and capture leads automatically.

What it does

Manychat automates conversations on messaging channels. You build flows in a visual builder, and it replies to comments and direct messages, asks questions, collects emails and phone numbers and sends broadcasts. Its product pages cover Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger and TikTok, plus a Manychat AI feature.

A typical use is comment to DM: someone comments a keyword on a post, and Manychat sends them the link or offer in a private message.

Why you would need it

If a good part of your leads or sales conversations start in direct messages, you already know the problem. Questions come in at all hours, the same five answers get typed again and again, and slow replies lose the sale.

I would look at Manychat when messages have become a real channel and one person is drowning in them. The automation answers the common questions straight away, collects contact details, and hands the real conversations to a human.

Where it fits

Manychat sits between your social accounts and your marketing or sales tools. Posts, ads and comments feed it. It feeds email tools and CRMs with the contacts it captures. Its integration page lists Klaviyo, Mailchimp, ActiveCampaign, Kit, Flodesk, Hotmart, Google Sheets, HubSpot, Zapier and Make. It replaces answering messages by hand.

What stands out

  • Strong focus on Instagram, with comment to DM, follow to DM and email capture flows.
  • One builder across several channels, with a free plan to start on.
  • Email and CRM integrations that carry the captured contacts onward.
  • A documented public API for custom connections.

My take

Manychat is a good fit when messaging is a core channel and you are handling by hand conversations that should be automated. The visual builder is approachable, and the vendor says most people are running within minutes.

What I would watch is the weight you put on one platform. Your flows depend on Meta's rules and APIs, and those can change. Manychat also covers the first conversation well, but if you need deep CRM logic you will push the contacts into HubSpot or another system and work there. Keep a human in the loop for anything that matters, because a bot that sounds like a bot costs trust.

Verdict

Pick Manychat if Instagram, WhatsApp or Messenger is a real source of leads or sales and replies are your bottleneck. Skip it if your customers mostly reach you by website chat or email, where Intercom is the more natural fit.

Before you choose

Priced by active contacts

Manychat plans scale by the number of active contacts, with overage fees for extra ones, and users are included per plan instead of being charged per seat. A big audience raises the cost even if few people are active, so check how Manychat counts an active contact.

The free plan is tiny

The free plan allows 25 active contacts, two channels, one user and Manychat branding. It is good for a test. A trial of 14 days applies to the Essential and Pro plans.

You depend on Meta

Your automations run on Instagram, WhatsApp and Messenger. Their rules, limits and approvals decide what you can do, and they can change. Keep your email list as a second route to your audience.

Compare it with the alternatives

Compare Intercom or Freshchat if website chat matters more, and Botpress if you want to build more custom AI chat agents. For ads that start a message conversation, look at Meta Ads itself.
