What it is
WhatsApp messaging lets you send and receive WhatsApp messages with contacts from inside the CRM, using a native integration or one the vendor publishes, and keeps the conversation on the contact record. For example, a customer replies on WhatsApp and the message appears on their timeline beside emails and calls. HubSpot, Pipedrive and Salesforce are among the tools that offer this.
Why it matters
In many countries customers prefer WhatsApp to email, and replies come faster. If those chats sit on a personal phone, the rest of the team cannot see them and the history is lost when someone leaves. Connecting WhatsApp to the CRM keeps one shared record. It matters less if your customers do not use WhatsApp.
What to check
- Ask whether the integration uses the official WhatsApp Business API and what setup it needs.
- Check the rules on message templates, as business-started chats usually need pre-approved templates.
- Test whether several team members can reply from one number and whether chats are logged on the contact.
- Find out whether messaging has extra usage or number fees from WhatsApp or the vendor.
