Behaviour-triggered emails

What it is
A behaviour-triggered email is sent because of what someone did, not because they joined a list or because you picked a date. The action might be signing up for a trial, buying a product, visiting a pricing page or reaching a milestone in your product. For example, a welcome message could go out the moment an account is created, followed by a tip email if the person has not yet used a key feature. Brevo, Kit, Loops and Mailchimp are examples of tools listed with this feature.
Why it matters
Timing decides whether an email feels helpful or random. A message that arrives straight after an action is far more relevant than a monthly newsletter. You need this when you want onboarding, upsell or win-back emails to run without manual work. If you only send occasional broadcast newsletters, a plain list and scheduler may be enough.
What to check
- Which actions can start an email: tags, purchases, page visits, product events sent through an API or form submissions?
- Can behaviour from your own product reach the tool, and how much setup does that take?
- Can you stop a sequence automatically when the person takes the wanted action?
- How quickly does an email go out after the trigger happens?
