Microsoft Clarity vs Trackdesk

Microsoft Clarity logovsTrackdesk logo
Clarity is a free tool for watching how visitors use your site. Trackdesk is a paid platform for tracking affiliates and paying commissions. Pick by whether your problem is on-site behaviour or partner revenue.

The verdict

For a small B2B team, I'd pick Clarity to start. It is free, setup takes minutes and you will learn something about your site within a day. It is a low-risk way to find out how visitors behave.

I'd pick Trackdesk only when a partner programme is already paying its way and a spreadsheet is the bottleneck. Do not buy it to test the idea. If you are still checking whether partners sell, begin with something lighter. Both have an API and an official MCP server, though Trackdesk keeps full API and MCP access on the higher plans, so check the plan you need.

What the data says
  • Only Microsoft Clarity has a free plan to start on.
  • Both have an API and an MCP server, so either works with AI employees.

Who each is for

Microsoft Clarity logo

Choose Microsoft Clarity if…

Pick Clarity if you want free session recordings and heatmaps on your site and no budget conversation. It suits lean marketing, product and UX teams who want to see where visitors get stuck.

I have run Clarity alongside Hotjar on multiple B2B sites, and Clarity is where I would start on any site. It records without a cap, adds AI summaries and flags key moments, so you do not watch every minute. It shows what, not always why, and it has no surveys. You still own consent, masking and the privacy notice, and the export API only covers recent days.

Choose Trackdesk if…

Pick Trackdesk if you run a programme where partners already bring real revenue. It suits SaaS companies and online shops that need several commission models, fraud checks and automated payouts, and that run several brands or regions.

It tracks through postbacks, pixels, coupon codes and deep links, and connects to Stripe, Shopify and HubSpot. It also has a marketplace for finding partners inside the platform. Setup is technical, so budget time for the first integration, and the entry plan limits seats, offers and coupons. There is a trial and no free plan.
