Meta Ads vs Reddit Ads

Meta Ads logovsReddit Ads logo
Meta Ads reaches a very wide audience across Facebook and Instagram, while Reddit Ads reaches people inside topic communities. Pick Meta for broad reach, Reddit when your buyers research in identifiable threads.

The verdict

For a small team that sells to consumers or to a wide group and wants to test demand fast, pick Meta Ads. The reach is large, click-to-message ads are available and Advantage+ campaigns automate more of the setup.

For a team whose buyers discuss your category in identifiable communities, pick Reddit Ads. It suits technical, niche and hobby topics, where honest, specific ads can work.

If you target narrow B2B job titles, neither is ideal. Meta is weaker on titles than a professional network, and Reddit is weaker on scale. In that case I would run a small, capped test on each with the same goal and budget, and keep the one that gives the cheaper customer.

Who each is for

Choose Meta Ads if…

Pick Reddit Ads when your buyers ask questions and compare products in communities you can name. Conversation Ads sit in the flow of a thread, and the targeting reaches specific subreddits.

The effort is in the creative. Communities have their own culture, and an ad that reads like marketing copy tends to get ignored or criticised in the comments. Read the subreddits first and test several versions.

Expect a smaller audience than Meta, so it is rarely the first channel. It helps when your Google and Meta costs keep rising and you want a channel with different intent. Start with a capped daily budget and compare it with your other channels in one report.

Choose Reddit Ads if…

Pick Meta Ads when you need volume and a fast read on demand. Online shops, local services and anything with a broad appeal fit well. You can start small, because there is no minimum budget, and Meta suggests giving a campaign at least a week to learn.

The work is in measurement. Set up the pixel and the Conversions API, and check Meta's numbers against your own analytics and CRM. Privacy changes on iOS have made attribution less exact.

Keep your email list and website as assets you own. Meta can change policies, formats and delivery rules, and ad accounts can be disabled.
