How to automate Hootsuite

API and webhooks

Hootsuite has a public REST API. The Publishing API schedules posts with media to social accounts at a set time, and there are HTTP webhooks for event notifications. It also covers SCIM user provisioning, link shortening and inbox management. One idea: publish a post to your social accounts automatically when a new blog article goes live in your CMS.

MCP server

Hootsuite runs four official MCP servers: Perch for content planning and publishing, Nest for the inbox, Lumen for insights and listening, and Parliament for employee advocacy. An assistant can draft and schedule posts, triage the inbox, and pull performance and sentiment. One idea: ask an assistant each Monday for last week's top-performing posts and a draft of three follow-ups, then approve them yourself.
