How to automate Google BigQuery

API and webhooks

BigQuery documents a REST API and also supports ODBC and JDBC drivers, so most analytics tools and scripts can connect. Load jobs and streaming ingestion bring data in.

Automation idea: run a query from your own job runner every Monday that builds a weekly metrics table, then post the headline numbers to Slack.

MCP server

Google runs an official remote BigQuery MCP server at bigquery.googleapis.com/mcp. It is enabled when you enable the BigQuery API and uses streamable HTTP. Tools run queries, get metadata and list resources. By default queries are limited to three minutes, and queries on Google Drive external tables are not supported.

Automation idea: connect it to Claude and ask plain-language questions about your tables, with read-only access.

No-code automation

Check whether Zapier or Make offer a BigQuery connection before you plan a flow around it.

Automation idea: append every new qualified lead from your CRM to a BigQuery table, so reporting always has the latest data.
