WordPress plugin

What it is
A WordPress plugin is a small add-on installed from inside the WordPress dashboard. For a lead capture tool, it connects your site to your account, so you can place and manage campaigns without copying a code snippet into your theme. An official plugin is one published by the vendor itself, ideally listed in the WordPress plugin directory. OptinMonster is an example of a tool listed with this feature.
Why it matters
A large share of business websites run on WordPress, and many owners are not comfortable editing theme files. A plugin lowers the risk of mistakes and often brings extras, such as showing a campaign only on certain posts or categories, or only to logged-in users. Without one, you can usually still add a tool by pasting a script into your site, which works but is less convenient.
It matters if your site is built on WordPress and you want to manage campaigns yourself. If your site runs on another platform, a plugin makes no difference to you.
A plugin also adds code to your site, so its quality and upkeep matter.
What to check
- Is the plugin listed in the official WordPress directory, and is it published by the vendor.
- When was it last updated, and does it support the current WordPress version.
- Does it slow down your pages, and can you test that before committing.
- Can you still use the tool through a script if you cannot or do not want to install the plugin.
