Hosted self-serve checkout
On this pageWhat it is
What it is
A hosted checkout is a payment page that the vendor builds, secures and runs for you. You send customers a link or add a button to your site, and they land on a page where they choose a plan, enter payment details and complete the purchase. Stripe, Paddle, Chargebee and Moneybird are examples of tools that provide one.
Why it matters
Building your own checkout takes developer time and carries security and compliance duties. A hosted page lets you start selling in minutes and handles card data for you. It matters when you want customers to buy without talking to anyone, such as for subscriptions or low-priced products. It matters less if you sell high-value deals through a sales team and send invoices instead.
What to check
- Can you change the logo, colours and wording to match your brand?
- Which payment methods and currencies does it support for your customers?
- Does it handle tax, coupons and plan changes?
- Can customers pay in the local language?
