Spend cashback
The account or card pays back a share of what you spend with it, either automatically or as credit, in addition to its normal service.
On this pageWhat it is
What it is
Spend cashback returns a small percentage of card spending to the business, usually as money in the account or as a statement credit. It may apply to all purchases or only to certain categories, and it may depend on the plan you choose. GoDutch and Revolut Pro are listed as having it.
Why it matters
For a business with large regular card spending on software, advertising or travel, cashback lowers the real cost of those bills. It should not decide the choice by itself, because a small percentage on a modest spend is a small amount, and fees elsewhere can outweigh it. It matters more for companies that already put most of their costs on cards.
What to check
- Ask which transactions earn cashback, and which are excluded, such as cash withdrawals, tax payments or foreign currency.
- Check whether there is a monthly or yearly cap on the amount returned.
- Find out whether cashback depends on a paid plan or a minimum spend.
- Ask how it is paid out, and whether it counts as taxable income for your company.
