Accounting integrations

The tool connects to named accounting packages, and the entry lists which ones, so you can see whether it fits the bookkeeping system you already use.

What it is

An accounting integration passes transactions, invoices or receipts from the tool into the software your bookkeeper uses, such as Exact Online, Moneybird, Xero or QuickBooks. For this feature the value is a list of the packages supported, not a yes or no. The connection may run automatically or may only be an export file that is uploaded by hand, and the difference matters.

Why it matters

Retyping bank lines and receipts into the accounts costs time and invites mistakes, and it delays closing each month. A good connection means the books are close to complete at the end of the period. It matters most when you have regular transactions, an outside accountant, or VAT returns to file. If you only have a handful of transactions a year, a spreadsheet export may be enough.

What to check

  • Check that the exact package you use is on the list, and ask whether the connection is built by the vendor or by a third party.
  • Ask what data moves across, for example transactions, attached receipts, VAT codes and contacts.
  • Find out whether data moves one way or both ways, and how often it is synchronised.
  • Ask your bookkeeper to try it in a trial and confirm that the result is usable.
