Built-in auth

Get user sign-up, login and password handling from the platform itself, so you do not need to build or buy a separate authentication service.

What it is

Authentication is the part of an app that lets people create accounts and sign in. Built-in auth means the platform provides this as a ready-made service, including secure password storage, email confirmation, password resets and often sign-in with Google or other providers. Supabase includes it, so a developer can add accounts to an app without writing the security code from scratch.

Why it matters

Authentication is easy to get wrong, and mistakes can expose customer data. Using a tested service reduces risk and saves development time. It matters if you are building an app or portal that has user accounts. If your project has no logins, it is irrelevant. It also affects switching later, since moving users between services can be awkward.

What to check

  • Which sign-in methods are supported, such as email, social accounts or single sign-on.
  • Is two-factor authentication available.
  • How are users counted and charged as the number of accounts grows.
  • Can you export your users, including their data, if you leave.
