API access

Read data from the product or send it commands from your own software or automation tools, through an API.

What it is

An API is a documented way for programs to talk to each other. With API access, a developer or an automation tool can fetch data from a product, create records or trigger actions without anyone clicking through the screen. For example, a contract tool such as DocuSign or PandaDoc can send documents for signature from your CRM, and Anthropic's API lets your own app call Claude.

Why it matters

An API lets you connect the tool to the rest of your systems and avoid copying data by hand. It matters when you want custom workflows, reports or products built around the tool. If you only use the tool by itself, you may never use it. Plans differ here, since API access is sometimes limited to higher tiers or charged by usage.

What to check

  • Is the API included in your plan, and are there rate limits or usage charges.
  • Is there documentation, and are there examples or software libraries.
  • Which parts of the product can the API reach, only some or everything.
  • Is there a test environment, so you can try it without touching live data.
