CallRail vs Microsoft Clarity

CallRail logovsMicrosoft Clarity logo
Microsoft Clarity is a free tool that shows how visitors behave on your site. CallRail traces phone calls to their source. Start with Clarity for site behaviour and add CallRail when calls bring revenue.

The verdict

For most small B2B teams, I'd pick Clarity first. It costs no money and fixes problems you can see, such as a button that looks dead or a form that fails.

If you run a service business where leads call you, I'd pick CallRail. Your ad platform tells you who clicked, not who picked up the phone, and you may be cutting the keywords that make it ring.

If you have both a busy site and a busy phone line, use both. They do not overlap. Add Clarity today because the risk is nil, and add CallRail when you can show that calls matter.

Who each is for

CallRail logo

Choose CallRail if…

Pick Clarity if you are a lean marketing, product or UX team that wants to see where visitors get stuck without a budget conversation. It suits you when a landing page converts badly and nobody can explain it.

Setup is one script, for example through Google Tag Manager, and it works alongside Google Analytics. Check masking of sensitive fields and your cookie consent before you roll it out. It shows what visitors do, not why, and it will not tell you about a phone call. Add a survey tool for feedback.

Choose Microsoft Clarity if…

Pick CallRail if calls bring in revenue and you spend on ads. It suits marketers and agencies for trades, clinics, legal firms, home services and local shops.

You get call recording, transcription and a source for each call, and the results feed back into Google Ads, Meta, Google Analytics and your CRM. Count how many sources you want to separate, because each needs its own number. Recording is regulated and the rules differ by country. Skip it if your funnel is forms and checkout with no phone step.
