CallRail vs Google Analytics

CallRail logovsGoogle Analytics logo
Google Analytics measures web and app traffic and conversions for free. CallRail adds the phone calls Analytics cannot see. Most teams start with Analytics and add CallRail when calls bring revenue.

The verdict

If you run a normal B2B site, I'd pick Google Analytics first. It is free, it connects with Google Ads, Search Console and Tag Manager, and it is the cornerstone of most marketing set-ups.

If a good share of your leads call, add CallRail. Without it you judge campaigns on half the picture and may cut the keywords that make the phone ring.

So for most small B2B teams, Analytics is the first pick. For a service business where calls are the main source of revenue, CallRail is the tool you buy first, and you feed its data back into Analytics.

Who each is for

CallRail logo

Choose CallRail if…

Pick CallRail if you are a marketer or agency for a service business or local shop where calls bring in revenue and you spend on ads. It suits you when you need to know which campaign, keyword or page produced each call.

It pushes results to Google Ads, Meta, Microsoft Ads, Google Analytics and your CRM, and it lists Salesforce, HubSpot, Slack and Zapier. Set up call recording consent and dynamic number insertion properly or attribution gets muddy. Skip it if your funnel is forms and checkout with no phone step.

Google Analytics logo

Choose Google Analytics if…

Pick Google Analytics if you are a founder or marketer who wants free, broad measurement of traffic, conversions and channels. It suits you especially if you already run Google Ads and Search Console.

Expect a learning curve with GA4. Plan the set-up of conversions and events properly. Privacy tools and ad blockers cause gaps, so treat trends as more reliable than absolute counts. Funnels are basic, so add a product analytics tool if you need rich behaviour. It will not follow a visitor into a phone call.
