BigCommerce vs Webflow

BigCommerce logovsWebflow logo
BigCommerce is a hosted store built around catalogue, checkout and APIs. Webflow is a visual site builder with CMS and light ecommerce. Choose by whether the shop or the site is the main job.

The verdict

For a small B2B team whose website exists to generate leads, I would pick Webflow. Every B2B site I manage runs on it, and I would choose it again for a modern marketing site. For a team whose revenue comes through a catalogue and orders, pick BigCommerce.

Do not make Webflow carry a large shop, and do not make BigCommerce carry a content marketing plan. If selling products is the core of the business, test the catalogue and checkout limits on Webflow before you commit. If you need both a strong site and a serious store, plan for two systems with clear owners, and check how they connect first.

Who each is for

BigCommerce logo

Choose BigCommerce if…

Pick BigCommerce if selling products is the core of the business and you expect to grow past a basic store. It suits growing retailers and B2B sellers that want documented APIs for orders, products and customers, and plans that follow sales volume.

A developer can build around its REST and GraphQL APIs, and embedded payment providers carry no platform fee. The hosted MCP server is in beta, and its B2B tools depend on your edition. Skip it if you want a custom-looking company site that a marketer can change in an afternoon. A store platform is the wrong place for campaign landing pages, and the design control is narrower than a visual builder gives you.

Choose Webflow if…

Pick Webflow if you are a marketing team, designer or agency that wants a custom-looking B2B site you can change quickly. The CMS handles blogs, case studies and resource libraries, and Editor mode lets clients tweak copy without breaking the design.

Be ready for a steep learning curve, because it rewards people who understand layout and classes. Pricing is also fragmented, with site plans per site and workspace plans per seat, so count who needs which access. The Designer lags on very big pages. Skip it if you want the fastest possible start with no learning, or a large online shop. A move to another platform later means rebuilding parts of the site.
