Awesome Screenshot
Why Awesome Screenshot
Awesome Screenshot captures full-page screenshots and screen video with audio, then lets you annotate with arrows, shapes and text before sharing. Embed feedback directly in your workflow with browser extensions and apps for macOS, Windows and iOS. Perfect for documenting processes and sharing visual feedback.
What it does
Awesome Screenshot is a screen capture and screen recording tool. You take a screenshot of a visible area or a whole page, record your screen with or without your camera, annotate with arrows, shapes and text, and share the result with a link or save it to your computer.
It runs as a browser extension and has apps for macOS, Windows and iOS. The vendor says more than two million people use it.
Why you would need it
Written feedback goes wrong easily. "The button on the second page looks off" leads to three replies and a call. A marked-up screenshot says it in five seconds. The same goes for bug reports: a screenshot with an arrow, or a short recording, saves the developer from guessing.
It also helps when you document a process. A few annotated screenshots turn into a clear step-by-step guide that a new hire can follow.
Where it fits
It sits between the person who sees a problem and the tool where the problem gets handled. The vendor lists direct connections to Trello, Slack, Asana, Jira and Google Drive. So a screenshot can go straight into a task, a ticket or a channel.
It replaces the habit of pasting images into email and chat, and for simple cases it replaces a heavier recording tool. It is not a usability research platform.
What stands out
- One-click capture, including full-page screenshots.
- Annotation tools for arrows, shapes and text.
- Screen and camera recording with audio, so you can narrate what you show.
- Sharing links with privacy settings, so sensitive feedback stays limited to the people you choose.
- A free plan to try it.
My take
This is a small tool that earns its place by being fast. I would pick it for founders and small teams who send a lot of visual feedback and do not want to learn a bigger product. The value is in the habit: once everyone sends annotated screenshots, review rounds get shorter.
Where I would hesitate is research. If you want to see how real users behave on your site, with heatmaps or session replays, you need a different class of tool. I would also check the integrations you rely on before you roll it out.
Verdict
Pick Awesome Screenshot if your team shares screenshots and short recordings daily, and you want annotation and sharing in a few clicks. Skip it if you need user research features, or if you want a full video library for customers.
Notes
Your note
Before you choose
It is not a usability testing platform
The category it sits in can mislead. Awesome Screenshot captures and annotates. It does not run tests with users, record visitor sessions or give heatmaps. For that, look at Hotjar or Microsoft Clarity.

Check which features sit on the free plan
There is a free plan, and paid plans add more. Look at limits on recording length, storage and sharing before you standardise on it across a team.
Alternatives for video
If you mainly record walkthroughs for customers or prospects, Loom is the natural comparison. Awesome Screenshot is stronger on the annotated screenshot side. Pick the one that matches what your team sends most.
Where your captures live
Screenshots can contain customer data, internal dashboards and passwords on screen. Decide where files are stored, who can open a shared link and how long links stay active before you use it on client work.
