Runs A/B and multivariate tests on websites to track visitor behaviour and optimise conversion rates.

Why VWO

VWO brings A/B testing, heatmaps and session recordings into one workspace. This integrated approach lets teams spot friction points in analytics and validate improvements with live tests. Marketing, product and growth teams use it to run structured conversion-optimisation experiments on websites and apps.

Best for
Marketing, product and growth teams with enough website traffic to run structured A/B tests, who want heatmaps, recordings and experiments in one workspace rather than separate tools.

What it does

VWO is a platform for improving conversion on websites and apps. It brings A/B and multivariate testing, personalisation, heatmaps, session recordings, surveys and form analytics into one workspace. You find a problem in the behaviour data, test a fix and check the result without changing tools.

The vendor now presents the suite under the Wingify name, and vwo.com redirects to wingify.com. The wider Wingify platform adds experimentation, personalisation, analytics, feature management, commerce and customer engagement suites, with an AI layer called Wingz on top.

Why you would need it

The pain starts when opinions decide what goes on the website. Someone thinks the headline is weak, someone else likes the new layout, and the loudest voice wins. Nobody knows whether the change made things better.

Testing replaces the argument with a result. Half the visitors see the current page, half see the change, and the numbers say which converts better. Heatmaps and recordings tell you where to look first, so you test things that matter instead of button colours.

Where it fits

VWO sits on top of your website or app, next to your analytics tool. It reads visitor behaviour and changes what visitors see. Results feed back to the team that owns the page, and the winning variant goes live on the site or into the product.

It can replace a separate testing tool and a separate heatmap or recording tool. If you only need recordings, Hotjar or Microsoft Clarity will do that part for less commitment.

What stands out

  • Observation and action in one place. One workflow I like is spotting friction in a heatmap, starting an A/B test straight away and watching recordings of visitors in each variant.
  • Visual editing lets marketers launch simple tests, and a code editor is there when a test needs more.
  • A built-in test duration estimator takes out some of the early guesswork.
  • An official MCP server and a REST API, so AI tools and your own systems can read your experiment data.

My take

I value the closed loop. It shortens the time between seeing a problem and testing a fix, and that keeps an optimisation programme moving. For a B2B service company or growth team that needs more than a bare-bones tester but cannot justify the biggest enterprise suites, it is a sensible middle.

The catch is traffic. A test needs enough visitors to reach a result, and low-traffic sites will wait a long time. Specialist tools also beat the extras here. Surveys and form analytics are convenient, but I would not expect them to match a dedicated product.

Verdict

Pick it if you have the traffic and the appetite to run experiments as a routine, and you want testing and behaviour data in one place. Skip it if your site gets little traffic, if you only want session recordings, or if you want a free plan, because there is none, only a trial.

Before you choose

Traffic drives cost and results

Plans are priced on custom quotes, and the vendor shows no public prices. Traffic limits are the part to read closely. A high-volume site can reach the limits faster than expected, so ask how visitors are counted and what happens when you go over.

A trial, not a free plan

The vendor's own FAQ says there are no free plans, and offers a 30-day free trial without a card. Thirty days is short for a test that needs weeks of traffic. Plan a first experiment before the trial starts so the clock is not wasted.

Development help for complex tests

Visual edits suit simple changes. Tests that change logic, forms or checkout flows usually need a developer. Check who in your team can write and review that code before you commit.

The Wingify rebrand

The product is now sold under the Wingify name, and the suite has grown beyond testing. Check which modules your plan includes and which are separate, so you do not pay for a platform when you only wanted a testing tool.

Alternatives to compare

Omniconvert is aimed at the European mid-market. Larger enterprise testing suites sit above it on cost and scope. For recordings alone, compare Hotjar and Microsoft Clarity.
