How to automate QuickBooks

Native integrations

QuickBooks connects to many apps through the Intuit app marketplace, and the vendor's site lists integrations such as HubSpot, Square, PayPal, Wix, Amazon, Etsy and eBay. Bank feeds are built in.

Automation idea: when a deal closes in your CRM, create the invoice in QuickBooks automatically, and mark the deal as paid when the payment arrives.

API and webhooks

Intuit publishes a developer platform with a QuickBooks Online API, OAuth 2.0 sign-in and a sandbox for testing. Use it to read invoices and customers, create transactions and pull reports into a dashboard or data warehouse.

Automation idea: pull monthly profit and loss into a spreadsheet or Google Sheets and compare it with your budget without exporting anything.

MCP server

Intuit maintains an official QuickBooks Online MCP server on GitHub. It runs locally, uses OAuth 2.0, and exposes more than a hundred tools covering customers, invoices, bills, payments and financial reports. You need an app registered on the Intuit developer portal.

Automation idea: ask an AI assistant which invoices are overdue by more than thirty days and have it draft reminders for you to approve.
