Goal and threshold alerts
Users can set targets or thresholds on a metric and be notified automatically when it is missed or hit.

What it is
Goal and threshold alerts let you set a target or limit on a metric and be told automatically when it is hit or missed. For example, you can be sent a message when daily sales fall below a set level or when ad spend passes the budget. Databox, Looker Studio and Tableau are among the tools that offer this.
Why it matters
Dashboards only help if someone looks at them. An alert makes the numbers come to you and gives you a chance to react while it still matters, for example when a campaign overspends over a weekend. It matters for numbers that change fast or carry risk. If you review a few figures weekly in a meeting, you may not need alerts.
What to check
- Ask where alerts are sent, for example by email, Slack or in the app.
- Check whether thresholds can be set on any metric or only on certain ones.
- Test how quickly an alert arrives after the data changes.
- Find out how many alerts are allowed on the plan you would buy.
