Share and embed dashboards

What it is
Share and embed dashboards means a dashboard can be shared through a public or private link, or embedded in another website or app, so people can view it without being paid users of the tool. For example, you can embed a live results dashboard in a client portal or share a read-only link with a board member. Databox, Looker Studio and Tableau are among the tools that offer this.
Why it matters
Reports are only useful when the right people can see them. If every viewer needs a paid seat, costs grow quickly and many people end up with screenshots and out-of-date spreadsheets. Sharing and embedding keeps one live version for everyone. It matters for agencies reporting to clients and for teams sharing numbers with outsiders. It matters less when everyone who needs the data already has a seat.
What to check
- Ask whether people outside your organisation can view a dashboard without paying for a seat.
- Check whether links can be protected with a password or limited to named people.
- Test whether an embedded dashboard looks right inside your own site or app.
- Find out whether viewers see live data or a stored snapshot.
