PayPal vs Revolut Pro

PayPal logovsRevolut Pro logo
Both help a freelancer get paid with links and invoices. PayPal is the payment method customers already know. Revolut Pro is a free business account of your own inside the Revolut app.

The verdict

If you are a freelancer or sole trader and mix business and private money, I'd pick Revolut Pro first, because the separate account fixes a real problem. If you sell to consumers or customers abroad who like paying with an account they already trust, I'd add PayPal as a payment method.

They are not exclusive. PayPal sits at the payment step. Revolut Pro is where the money can land. Both charge fees on payments, and the rates depend on country, method and card type, so read the fee pages for your situation. Revolut Pro is for people without a registered company. If you incorporate, the vendor points you to Revolut Business.

Who each is for

PayPal logo

Choose PayPal if…

Pick PayPal if your buyers are consumers or customers in other countries and you want to remove friction at checkout. Many will not enter card details on a shop they do not know, but they will pay with an account they already have.

You can start with a payment link or an invoice and no website, then move to a full API later. For Dutch customers, remember that iDEAL often matters as much, and it has its own fee.

PayPal does not give you a business bank account. Its seller protection has conditions, so read them before you rely on it for high-value orders.

Revolut Pro logo

Choose Revolut Pro if…

Pick Revolut Pro if you freelance, trade as a sole trader or run a side business and want a business account without registering a company. You add it in the Revolut app, describe your business and give some proof of activity, and you get a separate IBAN and a Pro card.

Payments come by link, QR code or invoice, or in person with Revolut Terminals or Tap to Pay. There is no monthly subscription, but card payments carry processing fees. Availability and features vary by market.

It is a money app, not a bookkeeping tool, so check how statements reach your accounting tool before you move your invoicing over.
