Framer vs WooCommerce

Framer logovsWooCommerce logo
Framer is a hosted, design-led marketing site builder with a CMS. WooCommerce is a free WordPress plugin for a store you run yourself. They suit different owners.

The verdict

If you want a company site that looks sharp and that a designer or marketer can update without help, pick Framer. There is nothing to patch or host.

If you sell products and your site already runs on WordPress, pick WooCommerce. The shop lives in the site you have, and you control data, hosting and payments.

If you sell products and have no WordPress and no developer, I'd look at a hosted shop such as Shopify instead of either of these.

A mixed set-up can work, with a Framer marketing site and a WooCommerce store. Note that WooCommerce needs WordPress as its foundation, so that means two platforms to run. Only do that if you have the people for it.

Who each is for

Framer logo

Choose Framer if…

Pick Framer when design quality matters and the owners are designers or marketers. It suits teams who want to build, publish and change a company website without waiting for a developer.

CMS and hosting are included. There is a free plan, and an AI agent that works on the real canvas. Developers can add React code components.

The limits are cost and lock-in. Pricing is per site, extra editors are charged per seat, and plans cap pages, CMS collections and bandwidth. A Framer site lives in Framer, so moving later means rebuilding. It is a marketing tool, so a large catalogue or heavy back-end logic is not its job.

Choose WooCommerce if…

Pick WooCommerce when WordPress is already your site and you want full control of the store. It works well for stores with a lot of content, businesses with unusual products and teams with a developer or trusted agency.

The core is free and open source, with no platform fee or revenue share. You pick the hosting, payment processor and extensions. It has a REST API and a Store API, and an official MCP integration in developer preview.

You run it, so updates, backups, security and speed are your job. Extensions and hosting add to the cost. Skip it if nobody wants to maintain the store.
