n8n vs Process Street

n8n logovsProcess Street logo
n8n is for technical teams that want code-level control and self-hosting for automations. Process Street is for non-technical teams that run checklists, approvals and forms.

The verdict

If the job is connecting apps, running loops, calling APIs or keeping data on your own servers, pick n8n. If the job is making sure a person follows the same steps every time and leaving a record, pick Process Street. They do not replace each other. A common pairing is Process Street for the human procedure and n8n for the data moves around it, since both offer an API and an MCP server. n8n has a free self-hosted edition, but someone has to look after hosting and updates. Process Street has no free plan, so budget for it from the start.

What the data says

  • Only n8n has a free plan to start on.

Who each is for

n8n logo

Choose n8n if…

Pick n8n if you have a developer, or a technical founder, and your automations are getting complex. Parallel branches, loops, error handling and custom code all live on one canvas, and cost follows executions, not steps. The free Community Edition runs on your own server, which keeps data where you put it. I host client workflows on my own VPS in Docker, so cost stays flat when flows run thousands of times. Be ready for fewer ready-made connectors for niche apps. There you call the API yourself.

Choose Process Street if…

Pick Process Street if your team is operations, onboarding or compliance and nobody wants to touch code. You build a checklist with steps, forms and approvals, and the next step can change depending on the answer. Each run has an owner, due dates and a record of what happened, which replaces the static SOP document. I first used it in 2020 for conditional SOP workflows. Today it leans towards compliance-heavy teams, with audit logs, SSO and permissions, so it can feel heavy if you only need one list.
