Heap vs SurveyMonkey

Heap logovsSurveyMonkey logo
Heap shows what people do by capturing every interaction automatically. SurveyMonkey asks people what they think. Pick by whether you need behaviour or opinion.

The verdict

If your question is where visitors or users get stuck, pick Heap. If it is how satisfied customers are, what staff think or what a market wants, pick SurveyMonkey. A small B2B team that can only start with one should pick the gap it has today. With no behaviour data at all, start with Heap. With traffic data but no feedback, run a survey. Do not use a survey to guess at behaviour, and do not read satisfaction from click data. They work well together later: use Heap to find where people drop off, then send those users a short survey to ask why.

Who each is for

Heap logo

Choose Heap if…

Heap suits product, marketing and data teams with a live website or app who want to see how people use it without planning every event first. The retroactive idea is the real selling point: a question you thought of today can be answered from history. It adds session replay, heatmaps and maps of user flows, so you can see friction as well as count it. You will still need clear event names and someone to own them, because capturing everything creates noise. Mask sensitive fields and check consent for your region. Plans above the free one are priced by session volume.

Choose SurveyMonkey if…

SurveyMonkey suits B2B teams in marketing, HR and customer experience that need standard research done quickly: satisfaction, NPS, employee pulse checks, event follow-ups. Non-technical people can run it themselves, and respondents recognise the format. Results flow into a CRM such as Salesforce or into Power BI and Tableau. Watch the plan structure. Features, response volumes and seats are tiered, and extra responses cost more, so estimate your yearly responses before you pick. Surveys also look like surveys. If you need a branded, conversational form or one that feeds your own database, Typeform or Tally fit better.
