GitHub vs Zapier

GitHub logovsZapier logo
GitHub runs builds, tests and deployments around your code. Zapier connects web apps for teams that do not write code. Pick Zapier for business hand-offs and GitHub if you ship software.

The verdict

For a small B2B team that wants a connected stack without developers, pick Zapier. It handles the form that must reach the CRM and the deal win that must reach Slack. If you ship code with more than one contributor, human or agent, you need GitHub as well, and Zapier will not replace it. I would not use Actions to move business data between apps. Pipelines for code belong on GitHub, and quick links between popular apps belong on Zapier. If your workflows turn complex, with loops and heavy branching, look at Make or n8n later rather than stretching either tool here.

Who each is for

GitHub logo

Choose GitHub if…

Pick GitHub if your product is code. Pull requests, review and automated checks give every change a reviewable record, which matters more when agents write part of it. Actions covers most CI/CD needs, and hosting platforms and AI coding tools mostly assume you are on GitHub. There is a free plan with private repositories, a public REST API and an official MCP server. Issues are not a full planning tool, and Actions workflows grow into YAML you keep forever. A solo founder who never branches and only wants a backup of one folder will find it overkill.

Choose Zapier if…

Pick Zapier if people on your team copy data between tools by hand. As a Zapier Certified Expert with eight years of daily use, I would reach for it first for quick, reliable links between popular apps. The editor is simple enough for non-developers, and the task history makes debugging straightforward. The free plan includes two-step Zaps, Tables and Forms, with 100 tasks each month. There is also an official MCP server, though each successful call uses two tasks. Cost grows with task volume, and heavy branching feels clunky, so count your tasks before you pick a plan.
