Twinfield vs Xero

Twinfield logovsXero logo
Twinfield is a Dutch-leaning cloud ledger from Wolters Kluwer with prices on request. Xero is cloud accounting with public plans, no per-user fees and an MCP server. Your accountant often decides.

The verdict

Ask your accountant first. If they work in Twinfield, pick Twinfield. If they work in Xero, or they are happy with either, pick Xero when you value public plans, adding people freely and an easy way to connect other apps. For most small teams I would lean on the accountant's habits, not on a comparison table. Switching later means moving history, and that is painful whichever way you go.

If you are Dutch and nobody has a preference, check Xero's local VAT handling, bank feeds and e-invoicing before you commit. Compare Exact Online and Moneybird too. The right package is the one your accountant is happy to open every month.

Who each is for

Choose Twinfield if…

Pick Twinfield if your accountant or finance team already runs it, or if you want a cloud ledger with documented web services from an established vendor. It suits small and mid-sized businesses and finance professionals who share books with an outside accountant, and who are comfortable working with a Dutch-oriented product.

Expect to ask for current packages and prices. There is no public price list to judge it on, and you should not assume a free plan exists. Check that the interface, support and tax features match your country. If you work across several countries, ask how multi-country bookkeeping and currencies are handled before you sign up.

Xero logo

Choose Xero if…

Pick Xero if you want to see plans before you talk to anyone, and you expect more people to need access to the books. There are no per-user licence fees, so adding a bookkeeper or a finance lead does not raise the price. Plans step up by features, and the lowest one limits invoices and bills.

It also suits teams that want to connect other apps through an API with webhooks, or let an AI assistant reach the books through the official MCP server. Skip it if local tax filing matters most and a Dutch tool handles it better. Check your country site for VAT, bank connections and e-invoicing, and budget with the regular price, not the first-months discount.
