Marketo Engage vs Pardot (Marketing Cloud Account Engagement)

MEvsP(
Marketo Engage and Pardot are both B2B marketing automation for larger teams. Marketo works natively with several CRMs. Pardot is Salesforce's own and only really pays off on top of Salesforce.

The verdict

This depends on your CRM, so I would not name one winner.

If you run Salesforce and want marketing and sales on one set of records, with pricing per organisation, I'd pick Pardot. Salesforce Flow for Marketers is a plus if your team already knows Salesforce tooling.

If you run Microsoft Dynamics or Veeva, or you want a data model with custom objects, I'd pick Marketo Engage. It can still work with Salesforce too.

Both need an owner, both want enough lead volume to justify them, and neither is a first marketing tool for a small team. HubSpot, with marketing built into the CRM, is easier to start with and to change later. Ask both vendors what each edition or package includes.

Who each is for

ME

Choose Marketo Engage if…

Pick Pardot when your company already pays for Salesforce and sales lives there. Lead activity sits next to the account and opportunity, so sales sees what a prospect read before the call.

The editions are Growth+, Plus+, Advanced+ and Premium+, and they include access to Marketing Cloud Next. Pricing is per organisation, not per user, which helps when many people need to see marketing data. All plans need an annual contract.

The value comes from the CRM link. If you change CRM later, the tool loses most of its reason to exist, so plan before you build years of scoring rules inside it. Someone should own field mapping and list hygiene.

Choose Pardot (Marketing Cloud Account Engagement) if…

Pick Marketo Engage when marketing operations is a defined role and you want a data model that can follow your business.

It offers custom data objects, listed with 10 objects and 2 million records, and a documented REST API with a daily quota that starts at 20,000 calls on Growth and 50,000 on higher packages. There is an official MCP server too. Its packages are Growth, Select, Prime and Ultimate, and some features sit on the higher ones only.

Adobe shows no prices without a sales conversation, so ask early what contact volume and API limits mean for your cost. Scoring models and programmes take time to build well.
