Exact Online vs Twinfield

Exact Online logovsTwinfield logo
Both are cloud accounting packages common in the Netherlands, with APIs. Exact Online adds AI agents and a wider suite. Twinfield comes from Wolters Kluwer. Your accountant usually decides.

The verdict

Ask your accountant before you compare features. If they already work in Exact Online, pick Exact. If they run their practice on Twinfield, pick Twinfield. That is usually a stronger reason than any comparison table, and switching later means migrating history. If your accountant has no preference, I'd lean towards Exact Online for a small Dutch business, because its feature set is easier to see and it adds AI agents for the dull jobs. Whichever you choose, check how it handles bank connections, VAT returns and the API, and ask for current pricing.

Who each is for

Exact Online logo

Choose Exact Online if…

Pick Twinfield if your accountant or finance lead already runs it, or if you want a cloud ledger from an established vendor and a documented web services API for connecting other tools. It suits small and mid-sized businesses and the finance professionals who support them. The product page is in Dutch, so check that the interface, support and tax features match your country. Ask Wolters Kluwer or your accountant what packages exist and what each includes. Do not assume a free plan.

Choose Twinfield if…

Pick Exact Online if you are a Dutch small or mid-sized business that wants bookkeeping, invoicing, VAT filing and bank reconciliation in one place, and may grow into payroll, projects or CRM. The vendor says more than 10,000 accountants use it. Its Purchase and Bank agents are a sensible place to start, but test them on a full month of your real invoices. Limits on users, administrations, bank connections and invoices decide the plan, and add-ons such as payroll cost extra, so count them first.
